Donation/Gift Acceptance Policy

Grace Advocacy Relief Organization (GARO)

1. Purpose

The purpose of this Donation/Gift Acceptance Policy is to ensure that all gifts made to Grace Advocacy Relief Organization (GARO) are consistent with our mission, values, and legal/ethical standards. This policy guides donors, staff, and volunteers in understanding how gifts are accepted, processed, and used.

2. Types of Acceptable Gifts

GARO gratefully accepts the following types of contributions:

2.1 Monetary Donations

  • Cash, checks, and electronic transfers

  • Online donations via official GARO fundraising platforms

2.2 In-Kind Gifts

  • Goods or services that directly support GARO’s mission

  • Items such as clothing, medical supplies, educational materials, or equipment

2.3 Restricted Gifts

  • Gifts designated for specific programs or projects

  • Restrictions must align with GARO’s mission and capacity

    GARO reserves the right to respectfully decline gifts with impractical, illegal, or overly burdensome restrictions

2.4 Non-Cash Gifts

Subject to prior review and approval by GARO’s leadership:

  • Real property

  • Securities or stocks

  • Vehicles

  • Valuable personal property

GARO may decline any non-cash gift that:

  • Cannot be easily converted to cash

  • Would expose GARO to financial, legal, or administrative burdens

  • Conflicts with GARO’s values or operational capacity

3. Unacceptable Gifts

GARO will not accept donations that:

  • Are derived from illegal activity

  • Impose excessive reporting, maintenance, or logistical burdens

  • Could harm GARO’s reputation or compromise independence

  • Require GARO to act outside its nonprofit mission

4. Donor Rights and Intent

GARO values the trust of every donor.

  • Donor intent will be honored whenever consistent with GARO’s mission and abilities.

  • Donors have the right to remain anonymous if they choose.

  • Donor information will be kept confidential and will never be sold or shared outside legal requirements.

5. Use of Donations

All donations are used to support GARO’s humanitarian and advocacy efforts.

  • Unrestricted donations allow GARO to allocate funds where they are most needed.

  • Restricted donations are used solely for their intended purpose unless the donor provides written authorization for reallocation.

6. Tax Receipts

GARO will issue tax-compliant donation receipts for all eligible contributions.

  • In-kind donors are responsible for determining the fair market value of donated goods.

7. Donor Acknowledgment

GARO will acknowledge donations in a timely and appropriate manner.
Donors may opt out of public acknowledgment upon request.

8. Review and Amendments

This policy may be amended as necessary to reflect organizational changes, legal requirements, or evolving best practices. The most current version will always be available on GARO’s official website.
